Signing For Something Mass Resignation Letter!

Posted by: Andee / Category: ,

I added my resignation letter to the signingforsomething.org website a few minutes ago. It feels really good.

In case anyone doesn't know, there are tons of people who feel it necessary to resign their membership from the Church because of the church's involvement in the Proposition 8 battle in California. If you would like to resign, or add your name to the list of people who have already resigned due to the church's stance on homosexuality or gay marriage, please go to the signingforsomething.org page and help us out!

Holiday Gift Ideas for Geeks Like Me

Posted by: Andee / Category: ,

These lovely gifts are from one of my favorite online shops... Think Geek.Probably one of the first chemicals we geeks ever learned about is Di-hydrogen-oxide (H2O), but probably second was NaCl. Sodium Chloride is also known more commonly as ordinary table-salt. The chemistry of salt has been well known for ages, but what has been known longer than that is this: your food usually tastes better with a little bit of salt and pepper. $14.99

Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups. $15.99
In the future, astronauts will be accompanied by tiny robot companions. These robots will most probably have a variety of hand/tool attachments, jetpacks, magnetic feet, and various lights and cameras. Cartoons and literature tell us these robots will also have quirky personalities and emotional problems. Until that bright future arrives, we have the Space Man Moppel. $29.99
People sometimes form very strong bonds to inanimate objects. This is especially the case when you come into daily contact with, say, a red Swingline stapler. The ultimate utilitarian desktop accessory. Its vibrant red color stands out amongst the grays and beiges that consume office space. The sleek, smooth retro lines. The sheer weight. The precise, solid movement. The mechanics. The thick, dense sound as paper is conjoined... $21.99

So, there's this little guy we know; his name is Dan. He's less than four inches tall and he's the one who models for all the warning signs you see all over the place. He does a great "Mens Room" and his "Caution: Slippery Floor" is beyond compare. Ok, so we just ripped that joke off an old Steven Wright routine, but so what. This little Stickman generic action figure is awesome enough to warrant it. Read on to find out why. $11.99

The R2 Fish Training School Kit is a complete training system that includes everything you need to teach your fish over 10 amazing tricks (including soccer, football, basketball, limbo, fetch, tunnels, and more!) $39.99

Leaving The Church, But Not Leaving It Alone

Posted by: Andee / Category: , , , ,

One thing believing Mormons constantly complain about is how those possessed-by-Satan-apostates can "leave the church, but not leave the church alone." I think this phrase is meant to get us to shut up and get us to... well... for the lack of a better phrase... leave them alone.

Here's the thing... The church is a corrupt institution that has lied to us and others for way too long. Why should we leave them alone?

If the church were a business (which it is, but.. you know) and actively took part in defrauding people, the consumers involved would be fighting back, right? Just because they are labeled a church we should leave them alone? That gives them a free pass?

Last night, thousands of people marched in temple square in Salt Lake City because they know what the church did was wrong.

Do the leaders of this so-called religion really think they can get away with lying to the world forever? Do they really think that people will not stand up to the perfectly pressed suits? Do they think we will stand back and look the other way?

Yesterday, the church put out this statement about their role in Prop H8 and the backlash that followed:

It is disturbing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election.

Members of the Church in California and millions of others from every faith, ethnicity and political affiliation who voted for Proposition 8 exercised the most sacrosanct and individual rights in the United States — that of free expression and voting.

While those who disagree with our position on Proposition 8 have the right to make their feelings known, it is wrong to target the Church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the democratic process.

Once again, we call on those involved in the debate over same-sex marriage to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility towards each other. No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints asked it's members for millions of dollars in donations, asked members in Utah to cold-call people in California telling them how to vote and spewing lies (kids being taught homosexuality in public schools? Nope.), and asked members in California to spend their afternoons and evenings at busy intersections holding prop h8 signs. They then have the nerve to look around and say, "Why is everyone picking on us??? They did it, too!"

Guess what, LDSinc., You are getting the backlash you deserve and it will continue. It will continue because people like me, the possessed-by-Satan-apostates whom you have lied to for decades, have had enough of your lying.

We are not going anywhere.

If you are going to make a comment like:

No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information.

You shouldn't be spewing erroneous information every Sunday. You shouldn't give erroneous information to your missionaries who then go out in the world and share that erroneous information with others. You shouldn't lie. Why do you have the right to lie?

I sit back and roll my eyes because a church that was forced to give up polygamy to become a state, is trying to tell other people who they should marry. Ridiculous.

I'm Tired of It!

Posted by: Andee / Category: , ,

Photo by Micah, from Life Beyond Ex-Mormonism

This won't come as a shock to many of you, but I am sick of every single Mormon I know smirking in my presence about proposition 8. I have heard comments like:
  • The people have spoken, and so has the Lord.
  • The Catholic Church helped, too! Quit focusing on the Mormons!
  • This is proof we are close to the last days...
One of my friends received an email asking the recipients to store food, hide guns, take your money out of the banks, and prepare for something huge.

Here is a title and body of an email another friend received:

The WAR intensifies as The LDS Church is attacked in California

Follow the Prophet, because we need to be prepared as the war that started in the preexistence heats up. With the outcome of the latest elections, Good will be under many more attacks from evil, and this video is just the beginning on one of the many new fronts of this war.

Pure evil: http://www.youtube.com/user/CourageCampaign

May God be with us,
This is insane. What are they hearing at church every day? What in the world are the leaders thinking by trying to scare everyone?

If the Courage Campaign is pure evil, what does that make the LDS Church?

The church put out a statement yesterday mentioning that it was being singled out for participating in the Proposition 8 battle and that it was an election and people had spoken. They also went on to say that protests in "sacred places of worship" were wrong.

How about this Mormon Church? How about you stop feeling sorry for yourselves, because you are the ones who brought this on.

A person with the screen name "What Now" had this to say about the church and it's persecution complex after the vandalism at the LA temple:
Unfortunately, all it takes is one person to do something like this, for the fires of martyrdom to start burning.

I'm pretty sure that it will be a testimony-building/strengthening experience for the person washing that lipstick off. They'll be scrubbing away thinking that now they know exactly what the early members of the church went through. They'll choke up when they stand up and bear their testimony, and tell their tale of victimization.

Half the congregation will have that burning in their bosom, testifying that these are indeed the last days.

Someone will quote The Book of Revelation in Sunday School. In RS and PH, every quote from the sanitized JS sayings, will be that much more profound. JS was tarred and feathered, verily even killed, for the gospel. And now, here we are in the last days, and The Saints will once again have to sacrifice everything for what they believe in. One of the hymns sung will be "Who's on the Lord's side."

Within minutes, half of us will open our e-mail to find a message forwarded by a friend or relative "horrified by the hatred." Isaiah was right! Good will be called evil and evil will be called good. Wondering why The Apostates and The Gays hate them so much. Why can't they just leave the church alone?

So, yeah. This act of vandalism - even if it's "just" two words scribbled in lipstick on a fence - is going to be perceived by TBMs as an act of hate, intolerance and (religious) persecution. They will never be able to see the irony or understand that many people think what the LDS church has been doing for the last six months or so is an act of hate, intolerance and persecution.
I couldn't agree more.

We are not fulfilling any stupid Mormon prophecy, and we are not "picking on you." We are standing up and shouting that you had no right to do what you did, and we are going to call you on it and continue to do so.

We are not going away.

Temple Square Shut Down For Protest!

Posted by: Andee / Category: , ,

Temple Square in Salt Lake City has been shut down due to the large number of protesters marching against the Church's help in passing Proposition 8 in California. If you live in Utah, catch the news at 10 (and not KSL, they are owned by the church and will not give you an unbiased story)! Damn, I wish I could have been there!

Andee

Chino Blanco left a message with YouTube clips of the event, I hope it's okay to add them! Thanks Chino!!!!

Resignation Re-Write

Posted by: Andee / Category:

Well, many of you know that I posted what I thought would be my resignation letter a few days ago, but I am happy to announce that I have postponed the resignation to take part in the mass resignation on the SigningForSomething.org website. How many times can I use the word resignation in one sentence? Resignation resignation resignation resignation...

I am going to re-write the letter today at work (shhhh....) and post it when I get home tonight. It will cover most of the bases, but I want it to mainly be part of the Proposition 8 mess in California.

The SigningForSomething.org website already has plenty of people ready to resign their membership due to the Mormon church's actions. We are mad as Hell and we aren't going to take it anymore!

I am ashamed that I once defended this church, and I am ashamed to be a part of it now. I can't wait.

Wish I Could Be There

Posted by: Andee / Category: , ,

Well, there is a fantastic amount of news in the fight over Proposition 8 in California. SigningForSomething.org is going forward with a mass resignation in protest to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' involvement in these political affairs. Please check out the SigningForSomething.org website if you would like to resign in protest, or check out any of the other things you can do to support our message!

Also, there is a HUGE protest tonight in Salt Lake City at Temple Square. Here is the info...

Friday, November 7, 2008
6:00 pm
Corner of State Street and North Temple - bring your family and friends.

Not since the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York have we as a
community really stood up for our rights in a determined way. Our
Pride Parades are an event, not a protest. Our court battles are
fought by few while we watch from the comfort of our living rooms.
Our petitions we sign while shopping online.

Society as a whole underestimates us. They underestimate our size.
They underestimate our determination. They underestimate our
conviction. They underestimate our power. Now is the time that we
need to remind them.

This week the religious activists in California decided to take our
civil rights, which they take for granted, and they put it up for a
majority vote. Even more despicable than voting to take away rights
of a minority is the fact that major religions, especially the Mormon
Church, dedicated, and in some instances mandated, that their members
dedicate time and money to passing this discriminatory cause.

We'll march around Temple Square and the Church Office Building. Let's show them
that we are many, that we are powerful, and that we will not sit idle
as they force their religion into our lives and into national politics.

Please show up with your posters, flags and banners (and dress warmly!)
Will meet on State Street and North Temple. Bring your friends and your relatives. Pass this message along to EVERYONE you know who has any respect for the rights of other people. Let's show the Church that we've had enough of their political influence in our lives!

If you can make it (I can't) please go and hold your sign loud and proud for me. It's times like these when I hate that I am not independently wealthy and I have to work.

The SigningForSomething.org group did not organize this protest.

Yesterday, as some know, there was a scuffle and slight vandalism at the Temple in Los Angeles. Someone wrote "liars" and "Bigots" in red or pink lipstick on the temple fence. Please remember that we should stay respectful at all times, yet get the message across that we will not go away. I know I don't need to remind everyone, but at times the mob mentality takes over and people get a little too angry. We just need to remember that we are right, and they won't change their minds or opinions if we lash out in this manner.

Andrew Callahan had this to say:

I'm sure I speak for the entire Signing for Something Committee when I state categorically, that we do not support, endorse or encourage vandalism, violence, or destructive or measures to deliver political messages. We found specifically that delivering political messages with flowers, pink ribbons, and a song about love to be far more effective.

I agree. Let's remember that the church loves to feel persecuted, and vandalism or physical fighting will only make them feel like a victim.

Love you all!

Design Boom

I loved this and wanted to share it. If you read as many books as I do, you have a need for bookmarks. I have never been a fan of bending the pages of the books I purchase. I hate doing it, so I love finding things to keep my place when I have to catch up in the real world.

This is call the liquid bookmark, and it is from a site called designboom. When you purchase one, $24 dollars + $5 for shipping, you get all three colors. Must have this!!!

I decided to take a look at designboom and post about my favorites... here goes:

This is a moss pencil. It sells for only $7 + $4 for shipping, and I think it's really cool. Not sure if you can actually write with it, but it's a conversation starter...
