It amazes me how people are willing to obey the LDS President without a second thought. Obviously there are church leaders out there just like him who claim they are true prophets of God (look at Warren Jeffs for example...) and they have charisma to make people believe it. Why is it that people just accept the LDS president?
The same people that accept LDS prophets also claim that other people are not prophets. How do they know they are not being fooled? They don't even think about it. They don't question it. They just follow blindly believing their leader is the correct leader... if there is a true leader at all.
I suppose people will say they know the LDS prophet is the true prophet (again, I don't believe in prophets at all) because they have a witness from the holy ghost... but don't you think the people in the FLDS compound have that same feeling? I do. I truly believe that people find meaning in things to back up their belief system.
Another thing that gets to me is when a prophet makes a mistake, like Hinkley with the Mark Hofmann matter) they makes excuses for them.
"The prophet is just a man." How many times have I heard that? Millions. Thing is... the prophet isn't just a man. The prophet is supposed to be able to speak and give word directly from God. Why is it that they would make such horrible mistakes?
Mormons don't treat their prophets (any of them) like they were "just men." They give lessons on these men, telling everyone who will listen how good they were (even thought they have done horrible things, and there is evidence of those things), and how they helped the world with God's help. They idolize these men and teach their children to honor them as if they were holy beings... yet when they make a mistake they are "just men."
Do you ever hear anything negative about the prophet? No... but negative things exist. The church has a way of turning everything into a faith promoting experience. If the prophet is right about something he has given revelation from the Lord, and if he is wrong he is just a man who makes mistakes like everyone else. It seems to me that no matter what happens believers will accept what the church tells them.
If you have a prophet of God, he isn't "just a man." He is a prophet. Why don't people get that?
Just re-read this, and I rambled... oh well.
Me.
WindySydney began as an online journal detailing my exit from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Since leaving the Mormon Church, I have come to the conclusion that religion does more harm than good. I have also become an atheist, looking for logic and reason instead of accepting things on faith.
I also blog about things going on in my life. I am learning photography, I have a severe addiction to diet coke, I am a proud vegetarian, and I have two of the cutest cats in the world. Life is officially an adventure without the magical fairy-tale ending. I plan on enjoying it.

Good day Sydney love,
The holy bible teaches us that we perish for lack of knowledge.
Which means the way that a massive ammount of people is getting fooled and has been fooled by a false prophet like joseph smith and monson is because those people or members have not studied the holy word of God that tells us all the traits and makings and fruits of a false prophet.
Sydney this is how you can tell a false prophet according to 2 Peter.
They will refuse to accept our lord Jesus Christ who bought their freedom.
Those false teachers will only want your money.
Don't that sound a lot like the mormon cult who only want their members money, but don't care anything about their members well being.
They will also use you by telling you lies.
Sydney don't that sound a lot like the false prophet joseph smith who told lots of lies.
But the judgement that was spoken against those false prophets long ago is still coming, and their ruin is certain.
Also a false prophet is bold and do anything they want. They are not afraid to speak against the angels.
That sound a lot like my former mormon bishop who was not afraid to have sexuall relations with his step daughter, who he have fathered several children with.
You can also tell a false prophet because they are like animals who act without thinking.
And like animals these false teachers will be destroyed.
Because they have caused many people to suffer,so they themselves will suffer.
You can also tell a false prophet because they take pleasure in openly doing evil.
Everytime thet look at a woman they want her,and their desire for sin is never satisfied.
Now that sums up the mormon cult as a whole.
Because remember joseph smith was a polygamist and adulterer who killed and married other mens wives and who had sexuall relations with 14 year old fanny alger.
joseph smith and the mormon cult is as false as they come period.
Let God be true and every man a liar romans 3-4

I don’t buy into the whole idea that Prophets should not be help to a higher standard. I was told a million times growing up in the church that, “where much is given, much is required”. The idea is that as you gain doctrinal knowledge, you will be required to live a higher law. This is also the idea of the Temple. You go there to receive "further light and knowledge" and are required to live to a higher standard. How does that not apply to the Prophets? They are given far more knowledge then the regular members so why not require more from them?

Soy Yo, I am glad someone sees what I am saying. The prophets and apostles are treated like holy men. They get paid by the church, they have security teams, they should be held to that standard.
Thanks for the comments!

Demand More,
You are exactly the reason why I keep this blog up. I am very comfortable with my decision to leave, but I want to be here to support other people as well.
We got screwed. Big time... and it's okay to be mad and angry about it. It's healthy.
Thank you for reading and for the comments!
