Okay, time for another rant from yours truly.
I just received this comment from Taylor on the infamous Mormon Temple article I wrote over a year ago. This article, I am convinced, is the ONLY article believing LDS members read. I never receive comments from them about my photos or my retro fashion sense, only the temple. Whats up with that? This blog is more than that article, people! Flip the page, read more... for the love of God, read something more current.
Anyway, this is what Taylor had to say:When you say the things about baptisms for the dead and how the mormon church BAPTIZES the people, that is not accurate. What happens when someone gets baptized in proxy for a dead person, that person in Heaven gets to choose if they want to join or not. They have the agency to do that.
Taylor,
Do you really think that I don't know what Baptism for the dead is? I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my ENTIRE LIFE. I have heard the same reasons behind this practice that you have. Chances are, I am older than you and I have heard them MORE than you.
Baptism by proxy is still baptism, is it not?
Here is the thing...
You don't have the right to do that. Period. It's not that hard to understand. You don't have the right to do it.
Religion is a deeply personal thing. Deciding to baptize someone who is deceased and has no ability to agree to the process is wrong. Even in my most TBM teenager days I argued with this. It's so uncool.
The fact that you say that they can accept or decline the baptism in the afterlife doesn't really mean much. That is taking the spotlight away from you and putting it in the hands of the deceased to who made their own decisions in life and lived how they saw fit.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has come under fire (again) for baptizing Holocaust victims after agreeing to stop the practice. The church gave their word and they lied. Nice. Really nice. These people died for their beliefs and the church has the nerve to arrogantly believe they know what is best for them in the afterlife?
I can't believe I stayed in this church as long as I have.

P.S. I just watched the finale of America's Next Top Model and Tyra Banks is really starting to scare me. Holy crap.
Me.
WindySydney began as an online journal detailing my exit from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Since leaving the Mormon Church, I have come to the conclusion that religion does more harm than good. I have also become an atheist, looking for logic and reason instead of accepting things on faith.
I also blog about things going on in my life. I am learning photography, I have a severe addiction to diet coke, I am a proud vegetarian, and I have two of the cutest cats in the world. Life is officially an adventure without the magical fairy-tale ending. I plan on enjoying it.

She IS scary.

Agreed.
Are we talking about Taylor or Tyra?
(For the record, that was a joke, Taylor does not scare me. Please don't sent me millions of hateful emails... thank you)
I have watched top model since the first season, and she gets more and more over the top every time. The outfits she wears at panel, her hairstyles, and even the method of explaining the makeovers to the models are downright weird.
She does seem to have a good sense of humor about herself, though.

The thing that drives me nuts about the baptism for the dead is this...If some crazy which doctor was doing some voodoo ritual while dancing around the name of this persons loved one and chanting satanic babble...I'm betting these people would be offended. Does this ritual mean that this person is now a voodoo king? No, it's all crap. But that doesn't matter to a person who cares about their dead ancestors, they want them respected in life and death.
Oh, and Tyra Banks is pretty scary!
