I Hate Wal-Mart

Posted by: Andee / Category:

Mom and I went to a couple stores today to price some baking stuff that I want to buy. We ended up making a quick stop at Wal-Mart to pick up some items.

I hate Wal-Mart.

Wait... I detest it. I loathe it.

The annoyances start immediately as you pull into the parking lot. Carts. Everywhere. Sometimes it looks as if there might be a really nice parking spot, but as you pull closer you notice a cart that would make a nice dent in your bumper if you attempted it.

Walking into Wal-Mart I always say hello to the greeter. Why? Because my own Grandma, whom I love dearly, worked as a greeter for Wal-Mart for a couple years. They made her a greeter because she was a senior citizen, and once they realized she was capable of harder work they moved her to another position. I like the Wal-Mart greeters, because they actually acknowledge your existence. Cherish this moment, because it won't happen again.

I immediately noticed a rather large Valentine's Day display with flowers, chocolates, teddy-bears and millions of other things that were red, white or pink with hearts on them. The flowers were these beautiful red tulips with white tips, and as you might remember (or not), tulips are my favorite flower. I quickly take a quick snapshot of the tulips and move on before anyone saw me.

We went over to gather some Valentine's Day cards and chocolates for my Mom's valentine, and as we were marching to the other side of the store for groceries, we saw a kitchen rug that would would look great in my mom's kitchen. It would match perfectly. We both kind of giggled and thought, "What are the chances we would find something we liked at Wally-World? haha!" Then, I decided to take a quick snapshot of the rug so my brother or I could get it for her for Mother's day. I took a total of two quick shots of a RUG, and this lady folding t-shirts in the mens' section said:

"Ladies! If they catch you taking pictures in Wal-Mart they will take away your camera!"

I would love to fucking see them try.

This is so stupid. Their customer service sucks ass. Did I hurt anyone by taking a photo of a damn rug? Nope. I wasn't even taking photos of other people. Just. A. God. Damned. Rug.

I hate Wal-Mart.

I hate Wal-Mart too. From what I've heard, they treat their employees like crap.

Any time I go there, it's one annoyance after another from the time I pull into the parking lot.

If there were such thing as satan, it would be Wal-Mart.

I wouldn't put it past the little Wal-Mart security pricks to try and stop you. They are afraid you work for the competition. But, I have never seen signs saying "no photography"

Wal-Mart is the root of all evil.

Seriously, they suck, and they treat their employees like shit. There was one lady who was driving a Wal-Mart truck and she was in a horrific accident. She barely survived, but did so with brain damage. She has no short-term memory.

Every morning she gets up and they have to explain to her that she doesn't need to go to work, and here is the real kicker, that her son died in Iraq and won't be coming home.

You would think her insurance benefits would take care of her, right? Nope.

Wal-Mart sued her and her husband for repayment of her hospital bills.

    I shit you not.

Oh, and there are definitely NO signs stating that you cannot take pictures in their store. I certainly didn't see any.

    I hate this store... Gawd!

If I didn't really NEED to shop there because of prices, I wouldn't.

Wow. Andee, I hate to say this, but I used to come to your site because although some of your stuff is indeed dark, I just chalked it up to your desire to educate people about the LDS church and to warm people before they went headlong into a treacherous leap. But lately, you just seem so angry at everyone and everything. It makes me sad because I think you have so much potential if you would just put your energy into something positive. And mostly, now I just think you can't practice what you preach, on even a basic level, and I'm disillusioned and won't be back. If I "hated" an establishment enough, no amount of money would send me back there. Wal-Mart's prices aren't that much better than the competition anymore. So if you really had the moral fortitude that you claim, you'd cease giving them your money, no matter what. You should really take a long hard look at yourself because you just seem to be sinking into a world hating fugue.

    Jeepers Anonymous,

You took this one rather personally if I do say so myself. I have ranted about Wal-Mart millions of times on my blog, and I will continue to rant every time I feel the need.

The way I see it, if I let out my anger on the website instead of on someone who is completely innocent and had nothing to do with the thing that made me angry, the world is a better place.

This is a positive outlet for anger. There are millions of other ways I could deal with this, but this is the best I can think of.

What I write on my blog is only part of my daily life. I write about the things that seem interesting or noteworthy.

My apologies if you find them "angry."

I am certainly not going to change.

That was a pretty useless comment. I get people all the time on my blog too telling me I'm not allowed to be angry or whatever.

    It really gets old.

Also, I wonder what it is that s/he means when they say "you can't practice what you preach".

    What are you preaching Andee?

I am not sure what I am "preaching" either...

I am me, this is my blog, and I will talk about what I want to talk about.

    Sheesh...

Maybe I should have more articles about cute cuddly bunnies and pink cotton candy?

I went in there after a shoot one day with my canon 40d around my neck, and was warned by an employee that if I was seen taking photos my camera would be confiscated. I couldn't help but scoff, not at the woman that was trying to be helpful, but that they actually thought they would EVER be able to pry that camera out of my hardworking fingers regardless of whether or not I was taking pictures in the store. This happened to a friend at a local mall because it was technically private property.

It's like "Yeah, I really wanted to come in here and photograph your cereal aisle because the layout is so genius."

Bryan refers to Wal-Mart as [ethnic slur alert!] "The Mexican Flea Market."

    Just sayin'

Here is what I don't get...

The cameras are digital. If they don't want us taking pictures in their precious wonderful stores, they can simply ask that we delete them from our hard drives.

    Duh.

The idea that they actually have the right to take the camera from us kills me. They would have to pry the thing from my hard-working fingers, too!

Once, some rude lady in the Cache Valley Mall told me that if I took photos in the mall I would be arrested. She said, and I quote, "Welcome to the post 9-11 world!"

Oh, thank you for the welcome lady.

    Good God!
    It's just a picture!
    Not even of people!
