I just updated my comments on WindySydney and I found this comment from Seth R:

It's really none of your business if your great grandma wants to join up with the Mormons in the afterlife.

Sorry.

Seth,

It's none of your business to MAKE my great grandmother a Mormon on earth, either. Funny how it goes both ways like that, isn't it?

This comment is a stunning example of the bizarre Mormon worldview. The assumptions you must make in order for his comment to make sense are staggering. I laughed out loud when I read it, and thought of a particular Mormon missionary cousin of mine who was angry that non-believers would not have a "reasonable" (his word) conversation about the church being true.

Where does reason enter into that type of discussion? Please!

    Leigh Wells,

    Thanks for your comment.

I was a little worried about sounding like a real bitch by dealing with it like this, but I can't even fathom why this kind of comment was necessary.

My entire post about baptism for the dead was about my feelings that the practice was arrogant and morally wrong. Instead of discussing the reasons why I find it wrong, he brings in a deceased family member to the conversation.

It's soooooo messed up to me.

If her joining the church is none of my business, how is her joining the church anyone's business??? Especially the people who have already done her temple work? Is it any of their business what religion she was on earth or might be in the afterlife (if there is one)?

    The statement is hypocritial... hardcore.

I can't even begin to express how much it pissed me off to read that.

    Gah!

Every guy I've never known named Seth has been a retard. Maybe it isn't his fault.

    Maelstrom,

All the Seth's I have known in life have been arrogant assholes, maybe it is the name.

Really... I can't even wrap my head around the comment. Seth leaves comments here all the time, but this is really messed up.

    Mormon think for you, huh?

I'm actually surprised that he said that. The hypocrisy inherent in that statement is just amazing.

  1. Andee Says:

    I know, Craig!

Yesterday I was pissed, now I think it's really funny.

    Andee,

When I read his comment, I was STUNNED, the lack of human decency or sensitivity is unreal.

The whole concept of baptisms for the dead truly baffles me. What is the point of even living if you can screw it up, make bad decision after bad decision, and destroy all the relationships that really matter; if you can just make it all up in the afterlife, accept the church and be baptized?

No sense whatsoever! Live your life, be a good person, tell people they matter! These were the things I learned from my grandfather, and if he is going to be judged after this life, I would rather he be judged for the person he was and all the amazing things he did for everyone around him as opposed to whether or not he accepted the Mormon church. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Thank you for your kind words before Andee, they really meant a lot!

  1. Andee Says:

    Jackalyn,

It's the Mormon mindset for you!

They are right and nothing else matters. I am so glad I don't think this way anymore. I am shocked we haven't heard from Seth again. Usually he loves a good debate. ;)

    *hugs*

    Yeah. You're right.

Good thing then, that I'm not "making" grandma into a Mormon.

Neither is anyone who does a temple baptism. Because temple baptism doesn't automatically make you a Mormon.
