Amazing Resignation Letter

Posted by: Andee / Category: ,

I have been considering sending in my resignation to the church for the past few months. I find the whole things silly, because I shouldn't have to ask them to leave me the hell alone. However, in order to get my point across and to make clear that I know they are lying to their own members, I will leave the church one way or another.

In search of resignation letters, I found this letter on the Recovery From Mormonism page. I want to make it clear that I didn't write them... no credit belongs to me. I would end up changing a few things, but I love the overall message.

President R G. C.
______ Stake
______, WA

Dear President ____,

This letter is being sent to inform you that we are officially requesting that our names, and the names of our children, be removed from the records of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This request is being made after many years of soul-searching, and studying on our part. We did not easily come to this decision, and in fact have found it to be one of the most difficult decisions of our lives. We have a deep love and gratitude for many friends and family that are still members of the church, and wish to make it very clear that we are not leaving because of hurt feelings, or being offended by anyone in the church. We have had to base our decision on our faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and our intellect. This decision is being made freely on our part, and with a full knowledge of what the LDS church teaches the consequences of making a decision like this are.

We insist that our records, and the letter notifying us that our names have been removed from the church records, show that the only reason why our names have been removed, is that we requested it to be so. We also insist that the word excommunication not be used in the church records, or in the letter notifying us of this action. We would not hesitate to take legal action against the church if anything is done to slander our good names, or if members of this stake are given the impression that we left because of immorality.

Please understand that we are taking this action because it has been proven to us that Mormonism is false, and does not teach correct doctrine according to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of the doctrinal problems we have investigated are:

1. We do not believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, or that he received direct revelation from God. We also believe that we will be judged someday according to our faith in the Savior, not Joseph Smith. We believe that he taught false doctrine, and that he has led many good people astray, and away from the true teachings of Jesus Christ that are taught in the Bible.

2. We are convinced that the Book of Mormon is not of divine origin, except for the verses that are plagarized from the Bible. We do not believe that Joseph Smith translated any part of the Book of Mormon, and that it is nothing more than a contrived document.

3. We are convinced that the Pearl of Great Price (particularly the Book of Abraham) is a pure work of deceit and fraud. It became apparent to leaders of the church that the papyrus that Joseph Smith translated into the Book of Abraham, was nothing more than Egyptian funeral documents, yet they continued to claim that the book was of divine origin. This fact has been hidden from members of the church for many years.

4. We are certain that the Doctrine and Covenants is also false, and has been changed and rewritten so many times, that Saints today have no clue what some of the false doctrines that Joseph Smith taught really were.

5. We are convinced that polygamy is a wicked principle that is taught by the church, and that it is demeaning and devastating to women. We are also convinced that it was an excuse for Joseph Smith to commit adultery, since he practiced it for at least 10 years prior to the 1843 "revelation".

6. We are convinced that, on the whole, the LDS church has made serious and substantial changes to all of their scriptures, and most of church history. We believe that this has been done to satisfy and comfort its members, to hide doctrinal errors, and to protect some leaders from exposure to their moral failures.

7. We are convinced that men and women are not treated equally in the LDS church, that women's issues are ignored, and that women are truly made to feel like second class citizens. LDS doctrine is completely offensive to women, and could not possibly be pleasing in God's eyes. We are also convinced that depression among women in the LDS church is rampant, and always ignored by church leaders. The impression is given that any LDS woman who is depressed, must not be living the gospel.

8. We believe that the the often quoted statement, "The glory of God is intelligence", is completely contradictory to what the church truly teaches about members increasing their intellect. Free thought is discouraged, and members are told what to read, when to pray, how to pray, and what to think.

9. We do not believe that God was once a man, that he lived on a planet similar to Earth, and that through his righteousness he became a God. Furthermore, we do not believe that men on this Earth can someday become Gods. According to the bible, God has always been God, and is "from everlasting to everlasting".

These are just a few of our major issues with the doctrine of the LDS church. We could write many more pages of other problems that we have with the doctrine, but I'm sure that our point has been made very clear. WE DO NOT WISH TO REMAIN MEMBERS OF A CHURCH THAT IS BASED ON FRAUD AND LIES!

In closing, we wish to tell you our greatest reason for leaving the LDS church. Our six beautiful children! We do not want our children to grow up in an oppressive religion that dictates every aspect of their lives, and teaches them that men are superior to women. We know that we can raise good, moral children outside of Mormonism, and teach them integrity and the most important of Christ's teachings: The love of their fellowman. The LDS church does not own the patent to teaching these important values. Our greatest hope in doing this, besides our own happiness, is the goal of having our children reach their full potential. If our daughters reach their full potential in this life, and our sons become better men, who respect and treat women with the dignity that they deserve, then our goal will be accomplished.

We ask that you please respect our request to have our names removed immediately, and be aware that we will not welcome any visits from missionaries, home teachers, visiting teachers, bishopric or stake presidency members. Our decision is final in this matter, and any missionary efforts on the part of the LDS church, will be considered an invasion of our privacy.

With Respect,

____________

When people finally resign, they are sent a pamphlet asking them to return. Here is a copy of that pamphlet from last year (Gordon B. Hinkley was still prophet).

I think the pamphlet thing is a little funny... and out of line. In my humble opinion, the people sending in resignation letters are basically asking the church to cut off contact and leave them the hell alone. The ONLY thing they want is a note telling them their request has been processed. Why the need to send this little gem? Does the church think that after all the research people have done this will make them think twice?

Another thing about it is how they quote the Book of Mormon on the pamphlet. Obviously the people leaving the church don't exactly believe the Book of Mormon is scripture. Why would a quote from the Book of Mormon change their minds? Duh.

I really do believe this pamphlet is a way for the church to believe they are getting the last word. Pamphlets like these make people very angry, because it's all a lie... and the church continues to pretend it isn't.

Are they in denial, or are they really believing their own lies?

What about family reaction to resignation ? You must be a strong person ....

I think resigning is great .The church is so arrogant and self assuming in its fudged annual membership figures.

Resigning will be the strongest message to them of what their 'counted' members really think .

And that welcome back pamphlet is a wind up ,they are so arrrogant, its beyond belief.

I think the best/only blessing of the church is the ability to resign and thats only possible because of Norman Hancock who took the church to task in a lawsuit over his resignation which they arrogantly labelled as 'Excommunication'.

Once again the church had to bow to the Law and ordinary people .

OR the 'come back' pamphlet is based on someones belief that the Church is actually true. Do you honestly think that all leaders of the church are perpetuating some lie in order to deceive the masses??? Seems highly unlikely. Think of some of the leaders in the positions of authority at the moment now and in the past. My personal favourite is/was Elder Neal A.Maxwell who preached nothing but repentance and the gospel of Christ. He was also a very accomplished Political Scientist and a full fledged member of the Democrat party. How you could honestly sit and tell me that he was 'dishonest' and wanted to continue a big lie is beyond me. He was nothing but meek and mild in all that he did and especially wrote.

PERHAPS they honestly do believe in what they preach and believe that the church is indeed the pathway to peace in this life AND the next. Perhaps they publish this because they somewhere genuinely love people and want to give them the best opportunity to obtain peace and happiness. Perhaps it isn't just 'getting in the last word'.

You all assume that these leaders are lying, cheating and stealing from their constituents...but perhaps they just genuinely want the best for everyone.

If the Church was true (Which it is in my 'humble' opinion), and you had a genuine love for all humanity, wouldn't you want to do all you could to keep people in? Hypothetical....and not answerable from your point of view.

Again, just me spouting off my own opinion to provide the other side of the story....once again, not a personal attack as usual Syd...

Hay, I got my letter confirming my resignation a few weeks ago but did not get the pamphlet:( Oh well, I guess they don’t want me back. Their loss, my gain!

I agree that resignation is the better of the two options. You take the control away from them which can be a big statement. It also gives you more legal rights if they begin to harass you after they receive the letter.

    Elder Joseph,

My Mom has already resigned, and my family knows about my issues with the church. It won't come as much of a surprise to them. I just find it ridiculous that I have to jump through hoops to get them to leave me alone. :)

    Nicko,

I am sure that many members of the church believe the church to be true... that much is obvious. However, I do think that the presidency MUST know the evidence stacked against them, and Monson must know he isn't getting revelation directly from God. You will argue with me there, but he gets no revelation. He isn't a prophet and he knows it. The whole thing is silly. The First Presidency knows the truth, Nicko. That is why they try to control the members so much. That is why they tell you what you should read and who you should trust. People sending their resignations have made up their minds. The church should leave it at that. Do they really think a little brochure is going to change someone's mind? Please.

    Soy Yo,

I am leaning toward resignation, but I want them to know that people are learning the truth. Sometimes I think that might be easier to get across if the excommunication hearing/court of "love" takes place. On the other side, even showing up to one of those hearings is making them think they have power. It's a catch 22. :)

  1. Soy Yo Says:

If you have not seen/heard the youtube videos about the excommunication of Lyndon Lamborn, you should watch them. They give a great look into what it's like to be in a "Court of Love" as they call it.

  1. Andee Says:

I did see those videos and they amazing. Lyndon Lamborn did an amazing job of speaking his mind and not backing down to the men and their supposed authority. He rocks. I wonder if I could ever pull something like that off.

  1. donangelo Says:

Sidney I am glad to see you are taking a stand for what you know is right and is the truth.

Because everytime someone resign from the mormon cult it let them know that the deception and lies are over.

And that it is closing time for the mormon cult and those wicked lds leaders.

Because Sydney your resignation lets them know that God shall have the first and last say about the matter.

And it also let them know that we will not support corruption and abuse all in the name of religion.

So yes we support you all the way sydney resign and enjoy freedom and truth that is what I am doing.

because also remember Sydney everytime someone resign it is a devastating blow to the mormon cult.

Because a kingdom divided shall not continue.

And there is plenty of division in the mormon cult.

Which is music to my ears.

  1. Nicko Says:

    Sydney,

I don't know if they honestly believe that the brochure will change any minds, but perhaps they believe that they can influence the decision just slightly so that people will return. If the Church is true, then people need all the chances they get...thats of course if you believe it is true...and that is where we sit in the oranges and apples territory...
