I Am Not Your Sister!

Posted by: Andee / Category: , ,

This might be a really short little vent, but it's been driving me nuts all day long.

Why is it that every faithful Mormon calls their friends and neighbors "brother" or "sister" outside of the church? Use their name!

This happened to me at work 2 times... well, not to me, but to two sets of customers going through my area... why do people feel the need to bring the LDS Church into every single thing they do all day long? Do you really need to call the guy in line next to you Brother Smith? Call him Bob. It's his name. God isn't giving you brownie points.

The second group this happened to actually stopped to roll their eyes and share a moment of silence while their "brother" ran to meet them in the aisle. It's not just me! I am not the only one that gets annoyed by this!

When I was in high school I became inactive. My Young Women's leader went nuts and did everything under the sun to get me back. She even used "Sister" to me at school and while I was at work. I never responded.

Needed that vent, thank you.

    Hey Sydney friend,

I was just thinking about several months ago.

I took a trip back to my old ward just to see was it growing, and what was also the fall out from my former mormon bishop who inpregnated his step daughter.

And fathered about three children with her.

And what I heard was truly music to my ears.

Because many members had resigned and defected all together.

    Some with or without notice.

I heard one of the young mishies or teachers shout out and yell in disbelief that the ward is and was falling apart.

because so many lds members have left.

He said where are all of you guys members?

He said you'll need to do something to get those members back here.

So you see syd those members are gone and they are not coming back.

because a corrupt cult like mormonism that treat their members like dirt, don't deserve or need no members.

just thought I would share this with you.

It's like saying Mr. or Mrs. I guess, only it has a religious connotation.

    James,

It's not like saying Mr. Or Mrs. If you are in a religious setting it's one thing... but why do this at the local store or at school?

It's just really silly to me.

Do people who do this think God is going to give them extra points to get into heaven because they stay in the church state of mind all the time? Do they do it because they want others to automatically assume they are so righteous that they think of the church 24-7?

Perhaps its just that they are used to saying it some much that it leaks out into the mannerisms in which they speak outside of Church.

Funny though, again here in Australia we don't really use the terms all that much within the Church. I don't call my Bishopric members brother so and so, I call them by there first names. Hell most of the folk here have nicknames they call each other (its really an Aussie thing to do). I still call the Ward Clerk by it during PEC. My Young Men don't call me Brother *insert last name here*, they call me Nick.

Hell even the second Counselor in the Stake Presidency is a friend of mine who I call by his first name in and our of church.

Again...I'm wondering if this is a Utah thing...

    Hey Sydney love,

I was just thinking that the reason the mormon leadership and mishies use brother and sister to label a member, is just another word for saying I'm in a cult.

and this is cult activity and behavior that I'm doing right now to pressure you back into the fold.

  1. Nicko Says:

you seriously need to recheck your statements donangelo...look up cult in the dictionary...I think you'll find that any religion is a cult...

  1. donangelo Says:

    Hey nick,

Every religion is not a cult.

Mormonism is the only religion that claims to have all the answers.

And also claims to be the one and only true religion on earth.

But it's not nick, mormonism is one big fraud and scam corporation.

That the members are now finding out about and are leaving the cult in droves.

That cons and brainwash people out of their hard earned time and money.

Mormonism must go because it is filled with corruption and greed and lies.

Because mormonism is the only religion that tells people don't drink this and don't read that.

    cmon nick get for real.

These are all symptoms of a cult to me and everyone who have resigned. The truth will set you free.

    donangelo,

We agree that the church can be EXTREMELY controlling, and that is a system of mind control. Mind control is definitely common in cults, and I personally agree that the Mormon Church *is* a cult.

Nicko is right that according to the definition in the dictionary, all religions are cults. It's technical jargon...

In my opinion, all organized religion asks things of their members that resembles this kind of control. Some more than others... some MUCH more than others.

Those inside the religion can't see it, because they are not ready to admit that they are not doing it out of their own free will. (I do know that some, if not most people DO this out of their own free will... please don't take that comment the wrong way. I am speaking of extreme cases only, like when a religion asks its members to kill or cut off from family or friends.)

Calling any religion a cult is very offensive, and I can understand how Mormons feel when they hear it. I used to feel that way. I used to defend the church to my friends in Florida without question. Now, I see things as they are... with fresh eyes. Those still in the church can't see it this way. We can't expect them to.

I think the word Cult has some connotations to it that people suddenly get jarred by and immediately think Waco type bizarreness. But I agree Sydney, its all very much semantics. I couldn't give a rats if someone calls this church a cult. I just don't care.

What I care about is if someone attacks the church with relatively little to no 'backing' to their argument (not you by the way...certain others...)

Anyway, in the end, the debate really is 'faith' v 'science' or 'rationality' of which I contest will never be solved until we are dead....oh the humanity!!!
