The Moment of Truth

Have you seen this game show? It's unbelievable.

FOX straps good-looking young men and women to a lie detector (polygraph) and ask them insanely personal questions about themselves and their families. The contestants win more money as they go along. They just have to answer the questions truthfully, no matter how it might hurt their friends, and families. More than one marriage has been broken by this show, men and women agreeing they have cheated, or that they are having so-called emotional affairs with friends. When does the greed end and your love for the people you are effecting with these answers begin? That is different for everyone.

Recently, a young man, a Mormon, was on the Moment of Truth. Both of his parents, Mormons, were in the studio audience, as well as his girlfriend who just happens to be Jewish. Lets watch the fireworks...

First, Mark Walberg asked the young man if he had ever been ashamed of being a Mormon. His mother and father looked at each other in hopes that their son was proud of his religion, unfortunately it didn't work out that way. He answered the question truthfully when he told the studio audience that he has been ashamed of being a Mormon a few times in his lifetime. The camera cut straight to his parents, sitting on a sofa with his girlfriend, bowing their heads. Ouch.

Then the young man wanted to go on. He was risking everything he had earned so far by asking for another question. Mark Walberg then asked him, "Do you think your parents would accept your girlfriend more if she wasn't Jewish?" Oh, no. This can't end well. Because everyone knows that Mormon parents want nothing more for their kids to be married in the Mormon temple and have babies. You simply can't do that if both spouses are not Mormon. She wouldn't be "worthy."

He bowed his head and admitted that he believed his parents would accept his girlfriend more if she were a Mormon. He went on to say that he knew his parents wanted him to marry a Mormon, and that was just simply their wishes.

Then, it got worse.

He went on... again risking everything for another question to answer.

"Would you marry your fiancee even if your family members didn't approve?"

The camera again pans to his parents and fiancee, his mother (complete in a dress I have seen on almost every single relief society president... ever...) looks at his girlfriend and pats her knee. The young man grimaced, as if he was feeling physical pain, and we all soon learned why.

He admitted he would not marry his fiancee if his family didn't approve of her. Wow. The girlfriend sat frozen, no expression on her face. That had to hurt. It probably sucks to realize that the love you thought you had with your future husband was resting on their acceptance of you.

He eventually went on to win $100,000 from the show. Wonder how much of that, after tax, made it to his tithing check?

I wonder what kinds of questions I would ask if I could have a general authority or prophet on a lie detector... oh, the fun I could have. The truth I could get... the honesty we all deserve... what questions would you ask?

    Hey sydney,

They should have had a game show like this when the false prophet joseph smith was alive.

so he could have admitted on live t.v. the truth that he was a false prophet and a pedophiler who preyed on little 14 year old girls so he could have sexual relations with them, and that he did this evil all in the name of god.

Because the moment of truth is that the false prophet joseph smith is and was a lying dog.

who thought he was above the law.

like some of those lds leaders who think that they are above the law.

because they may be above mans law like joseph smith was.

but they surely is not above GODS law.

because the moment of truth is because of the lies that joseph smith told.

a lot of innocent people who were mormons when they died, have died and went to hell.

because the wages of sin is death, the soul that sinneth shall surely die.

and it is so sad because these people deserved better than this.

but because of joseph smith lies, they died in thier sins and did'nt know the biblical jesus christ.

and according to the holy bible they are now in hell.

I would tell them about Joseph Smith neing caught with a young girl before starting polygamy and then ask if they really thought he was inspired.

I would also want to know if they really thought Brigham Young was not involved in the Mountain Meadows Masacre.

Do they really think that keeping people with one drop of african blood out of the priesthood was inspired despite all of the racist comments?

And do they really think that they can keep pretending they haven't royally effed up by not admitting their errors, and members will not resign and people will continue to join?

Finally, how small are their penises that they had to come up with the proclamation and put Julie Beck up to the talk that puts women below men.

I would just ask if he really believes that joseph smith ever had the ability to translate from god? If course we would have to remind him of the Book of Abraham and the Kinderhook Plates first.

Oh! And I would love to ask if he believes that polygamy should still be practiced.

And on a personal note, my mother is talking to me again after our little discussion. Woo hoo!

I love the questions you guys came up with...

I would start with polygamy, and then get straight to financial matters. I would like to know how much money went where.

I would like some honesty. Period.

    Demand More,

I am SO glad your Mom is speaking with you again. It had to be one of the hardest conversations to have, but it had to be done. Maybe the two of you can move on and become people that respect each other's beliefs (even though thats hard... on both ends!)

    Take care my friends!

Oh man...why would he go on that show anyway? ITs total trash and ridiculous....never mind that lie detectors aren't always '100%' full proof....what a 'douche' bag....
