Why People Leave the Church, and What We Can Do About It...
Posted by: Andee / Category: Church, MormonI came across this video this morning. This presentation is almost an hour long, but it gives good insight into why Mormons think their fellow Mormons leave the church. This was written and presented by John P. Dehlin, who is a 5th generation Mormon.
Mr. Dehlin is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and at the time of the recording, he was living in Logan, Utah. I like most of the video, because he actually takes the time to point out that those leaving the church are not doing so because they are sinning, weak, or because they have come across so-called "anti-Mormon" literature. He goes on to mention that using these excuses to talk about ex-Mormons is highly insulting, and I agree. It is.
He does go on to mention that his video isn't meant to draw believing Mormons into believing "dangerous things," that might sway them from their beliefs, but to give them an insight on the mindset of people who have serious issue with the way the church has handled things both in the present and in the past.
The video is long, but well worth it. It gives insight into how and why people leave the church, without casting stones or damning them to Hell. It does strike me how many times he has to add disclaimers to Mormons... making sure that he is telling them things that are actually from Mormon sources... and the stuff he is about to share won't prove the church is untrue... don't forget to go here and read the comments from some of the people who have viewed the video!!

That was an amazing talk! I listened to the entire thing and he says some incredible things. I guess no one else wanted to comment because this is actually an active LDS man not speaking down to non-LDS people. Most people seem to relish in the negative aspects they have found with the LDS church.
